Simple Elegance

Those that live in Oregon know that Memorial Day weekend usually has some moisture, we never know how much but it is there. Well this Memorial weekend blew the Farmers Almanac out of the water. What a spectacular day for a wedding was Saturday, May 23rd.

This group flew from all over (DC, NY, California & Louisiana to name a few) and many stayed at the Phoenix Grand Hotel www.phoenixgrandhotel.com in downtown Salem. Boy did Oregon surprise them with the weather. With the warm weather spring flowers can be found everywhere.

Roths http://www.roths.com/ brought in stunning tulips and a beautiful cake for this wedding. Bringing the brides simple elegance to form. She also used BeckenRidge white table linens and chair covers with no sashes. Giving the room a different look with only a splash of the turquoise blue on the center of the tables.

The bride also had 3 five-foot round tables on the covered patio for food stations instead of the traditional 8' buffets. This interesting twist was nicely catered by Sassy Onion http://www.thesassyonion.com/ who did a wonderful job once again.

The reception was more like a reunion of friends and family filling the room with laughter. All had a wonderful time and walked away with handfuls of memories.

Working in the Vineyard

I know I haven't posted pictures from our Saturday's wedding yet, but I will.

I wanted to give you a quick glance at Ken & Becky working hard today and the beautiful day it is.

This first picture I took from the covered patio about 2 in the afternoon looking at Mt. Hood. It was a little hazy today.

Here is Ken with Bo (nickname for the Kubota tractor) moving chairs again. Ken making sure the straps are on tight for the trek back to storage. He will be a pro by the end of this season. ;) Wait he already is. Way to go Ken.

These next two pictures are my favorite. Becky in the vineyard with her dog Amico (who is supervising).
Right now we are in the process of thinning and suckering. Thinning is removal of the second weaker vine coming off the same shoot. Suckering is removal of the random shoots trying to grow on the trunk. Both thinning and suckering help give more energy to the grapes to give us the best fruit.

A Week of Spring Weddings

We couldn't of asked for better weather last week for our two weddings.

Monday, May 11th was hit or miss with the weather (so we heard). Being nice to the weather people out there we did have a couple of sprinkles, but nothing hindered this group.

To play it safe we stuck with the plan of ceremony on the covered patio and reception inside. Which still worked beautifully. The ceremony & reception were pretty in pink.

I just love the "U" shaped head table in front of the fireplace. It works so well there and maximizes the space perfectly. They used BeckenRidge chair covers and a mix of white and pink sashes.

We just had bud break the week prior so the vines were just starting to make their way, making for some great pictures. Travis (photographer) took advantage of the overcast skies and green green grass and so did I.

Saturday, May 16th was by far the best May weather we had seen yet. A beautiful 77 degrees with a slight breeze (that helped keep the guys cool), what a perfect day for a spring wedding.

While the ceremony was taking place Elegant Catering http://www.elegantcatering.com/ was finishing the final touches on the buffet. They had a wonderful pear salad with caramelized walnuts, crumbled blue cheese and homemade dressing yum, yum it was a meal in itself.

Kim Ralph from Dancing Penguin http://www.adancingpenguin.com/ was busy with supplying the music for the ceremony and reception. He played a short set on the baby grand during the dinner hour. It is so wonderful to hear the piano played.

The decorations inside were simple yet elegant. BeckenRidge long ivory linens were placed on the tables along with the mirror tiles. They added a wonderful boutique of flowers placed on the mirror tiles with vases of floating candles around them. I really liked the bride & groom favor boxes, way cute.

Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Guests really enjoyed the vineyard and were out exploring. It is always great to see people in the vineyard.

Our next wedding is Saturday, May 23rd, wow can't believe it is here already. I will blog next week and I hope Becky remembers to take pictures. Have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend.

Cheers~Arwen

An Evening of Dance at BeckenRidge

Everyone had a blast doing ballroom dancing at BeckenRidge Vineyard the first Wednesday of May, and we'll be doing it again June 3rd and July 1st.

Are we dreaming of "Dancing with the Stars"? - Looks like ballroom dance is coming back into style. Who would have ever thought that the young and experienced would come together.

BeckenRidge decided to open its doors to those that love to dance (or are trying to learn) - May 6th, June 3rd and July 1st to see who would enjoy the hardwood floors and simply have a good time.

May 6th, 2009, turned out to be a beautiful day and brought out several couples of all ages and dance experience. Some danced the Jitterbug, some the Foxtrott, the Rumba or the Waltz, and some just tapped their feet.

Instructors John & Suzette Juhring gave us a quick lesson on the Jive, and in June they will give 1/2-hour teach on the Rumba and in July on the Waltz. If you would like to join in the fun, just come at 6:30 p.m. on June 3rd and July 1st - $8 admission per person for the lesson plus dancing until 9:00 p.m.
